II’m a wife, mama to 2 little girls and 2 pups, and Huntsville family photographer. Little ones grow up so fast and being able to capture those memories for a lifetime is what I love most. I love to be able to tell families stories by capturing the couple, little ones, whole family, or seniors at graduation.

Here are five effortless tips to ensure your session is both enjoyable and successful. From choosing the perfect location to selecting outfits that reflect your style, these insights will help you create stunning portraits that you’ll cherish for years to come. Let’s make your senior pictures a memorable experience! If you are looking for a photographer in Huntsville, AL click here for more details on my senior portraits!
The first step to helping your senior have a stress-free experience with senior photos is by picking the right photographer. You’ll want to pick a senior photographer that shoots images similar to the style your senior is wanting. Some photographers shoot light and airy, documentary, or true to color. Be sure to take a look at the portfolio and social media to see some of their previous work. Next, you’ll want to book the senior session early. Senior year comes with deadlines for yearbooks, senior nights, graduation invitations, etc. Booking your Huntsville senior photography session early will allow you to have the images ready before the deadline approaches.
When planning for senior portraits consider what location your senior wants the session to take place at. Think about locations that hold special meaning for your senior, as these can add a personal touch to the photos. As a Huntsville senior portrait photographer some of my favorite locations include Downtown Huntsville, Hays Preserve, or your high school.

Once you have booked the senior session the next step will be to help your senior plan their outfits. Be sure to check how many outfits are included in the senior photography session that you booked. I currently offer 2-3 outfits for my Huntsville senior sessions. Typically I will recommend for this to include a formal look, causal look, and then a sports uniform.
An example of 3 outfits would be a dress and heels, jeans and a college t-shirt, and then a uniform for any sports or activity they were involved in. I also recommend bringing the cap and gown if you have it already. The formal look is the perfect time to get a few photos in the cap and gown, as well, as headshots that can be used as they head into their career. Finally, remember to discuss any specific outfits or props that your senior wants to incorporate into the shoot for a more customized experience.
Help your senior to prepare for the day of their session. Be sure all the outfits are planned out in advance. The day before the session you will want to make sure all the outfits are together and ready to bring to the session. Be sure the outfits are hanging and won’t get wrinkled before the session. You’ll also want to pack appropriate shoes to go along with each outfit. Lastly, pack any props that you may want to include in the session. Some examples are the cap and gown, any cords and/or metals, ball for any sport that was played, instrument if involved in band, etc.
Once you arrive for the session trust the Senior photographer’s process. During the session it is the photographer’s job to help guide your senior through poses and making sure the photos look great. Some great ways to help the session go smoothly are to offer compliments and support to the senior, assist with outfit changes, and help the senior feel confident for their senior portraits.
