This beautiful Alabama senior photography session took place in July 2025. Despite dealing with the heat it turned into being an amazing senior session. The rain also held out and we had perfect clear skies during the entire session. This senior chose to have her senior session in Downtown Huntsville, which is one of my favorite locations for senior sessions. We strolled around to three different locations downtown to take photos with different backdrops including heading down to Big Springs Park. This senior also brought 2 different outfits to add some variety to her photos. The outfits she chose were perfect with including one outfit with pants and a fun long dress for her second look.

Behind the Scenes: A Peek at the Alabama Senior Photography Experience

When a senior goes to book their Alabama senior photography session they will be able to select the location or locations of their session. My senior session packages offer 1 or 2 locations. Some common location choices include Downtown Huntsville and Hays Preserve. Once the session is booked you will receive an email with my session guide. The session guide includes tips to help you prepare for your session including what to bring, selecting your outfits, tips on hair and makeup, and more! You’ll receive some reminders from me leading up to your session and I will reach out to see if you have any questions prior to our session.

At the session I will guide you through poses and your entire senior session. We’ll go over what outfits you brought and which one is your favorite to make sure we can capture everything. Then we’ll work together as I guide you through poses and different areas to take pictures to create beautiful senior portraits you will cherish for a lifetime.

Tips for Your Alabama Senior Photography Session

Below are some of my top suggestions for planning your Alabama senior photography session:

• Select outfits that you feel your best in and add some variety to your portraits. The outfits you choose are a big portion of the overall look of your photos. I highly recommend seniors selecting outfits that are authentic to them and capture their personality. Adding some variety between pants, dresses, and including layers with jackets can all be great options.
• If you plan to wear heels I highly recommend bringing some shoes that are comfortable to walk in. Many locations can involve some walking between photos.
• If it is cold be sure to bring a jacket even if you don’t want it in the photos. Sessions can be 1-2 hours long, so if it is cold please be sure to bring a jacket. You can remove it for the photos, but you’ll want to stay warm when walking to different locations.
• Bring your cap and gown if you want portraits in it. If you are scheduling your session prior to having your cap and gown there are some options of ordering one for your session. Please let me know in advance and we can work together on getting one.
• Have your nails painted or well manicured and completely bare. Many senior portraits will be up close and may include your hands near your face.
• When doing your makeup for your senior photos you’ll want to keep your makeup to what feels natural for you. You may consider adding a little extra eyeshadow, blush, and a tinted lip color as these don’t always show up as well on camera.

As a Huntsville family photographer I specialize in capturing senior portraits for graduating seniors. I always recommend booking your session earlier rather then later in your senior year. The summer leading up to your senior year or fall of senior year are typically the best times to book your session. The weather is nice this time of year. You will also receive your photos back early to include in yearbooks, graduation announcements and more! Also, the end of senior year gets so busy between college applications, finals, graduation preparation, dances, and more. Booking your session early helps to not add to the busy end of the year.
