Yay the delivery day has come and you have received your gallery from your family photographer. It’s so fun to pop open your laptop or unlock your phone to see that email with your gallery in your inbox. After you’ve looked through all your photos you might be thinking… now what? Sure you want to print the photos, but is there anything else you should do? Below I’m sharing tips on 5 things to do with your family photos.
The first thing you should do after receiving your family photos is to download them and back them up. Really please back up your photos. You booked a family session to be able to capture your family at a specific moment, so you want to make sure you have those photos secure. Most photographers will store your photos for a certain amount of time, which will be outlined in your contract, but they may not hold onto them forever. I recommend and personally back up my photos twice. Unfortunately, sometimes devices can fail, so I recommend backing them up twice. Backing up your photos on an external drive can be a great option. I also recommend storing the two back ups in two separate locations. Having two back ups should help keep your photos secure if one external drive happens to fail. Storing them in two locations should also help to ensure one of them is always secure.
The next step I would recommend is probably the most common one, which is to print your photos! You put the time into finding a photographer, planning outfits, doing a session, and paying an investment to have these photos, so you’ll definitely want them to be on display. For the best quality I suggest printing your photos professionally. Typically your photographer will have an option to professional print your photos directly in your online gallery. While the photos are a little more expensive to print this way, compared to sending them to a local drugstore or retail store, the quality really makes a difference. You will likely only print the photos once to display. I highly recommend investing in the quality of the printed photos to really capture them the best.
Next, you’ll want to hang the photos in your home. Before you print your images you may want to decide where you want your photos. This will impact the size you want to print them. You’ll also want to find the perfect frames if you don’t already have some. Once you have your photos, place them in their frame, and hang your beautiful family photos throughout your home.
Be sure to also share your family photos with your friends and family. Sharing images on social media can be a great way to share them with your loved ones. If you choose to share your images on social media be sure to tag your photographer in your images. It’s a free way express how much you love the work your photographer captured and is a meaningful way to help support their business. Printing photos for family and friends can also be a great way to share your family photos. Framed photos can make great gifts for grandparents and family members for the holidays.
Lastly, after you have received your family photos consider leaving your photographer a review on Google or social media. It can be short and quick, but even taking the time to write a short review can help their business tremendously. It’s very possible that you looked at reviews prior to hiring your photographer, so help them continue to be able to capture these moments for families by leaving a review. I promise they will be, so happy you did and you will likely make their day by taking the 5 minutes to leave them a review.
