II’m a wife, mama to 2 little girls and 2 pups, and Huntsville family photographer. Little ones grow up so fast and being able to capture those memories for a lifetime is what I love most. I love to be able to tell families stories by capturing the couple, little ones, whole family, or seniors at graduation.
As a Huntsville senior photographer I specialize in senior photography in Huntsville. My senior portrait experience is designed to create personlized sessions that showcase each seniors unique personality and style! Senior portraits are more than just pictures. They are a way to remember this huge milestone and chapter in your life. You will look back on senior portraits years from now and that is something I don’t take lightly. It is so important to me that we customize your session to truly showcase you individually and provide portraits you will love 5, 10, and even 20 years from now.
This guide on senior photography in Huntsville will walk you through when to schedule your senior portraits, what to wear, best locations for senior pictures in Huntsville, and frequently asked questions about senior photography in Huntsville.
The best time to book senior photography in Huntsville is the summer leading up to senior year or the fall of senior year. Generally, speaking these tend to be the best time to book senior portraits because schedules are less busy before all the events for seniors, the sunset is later in the evening meaning later sessions, everything is in full bloom, and warmer temperatures for dresses in photos. Although this is generally the best time to book senior portraits you can book them anytime throughout the year.
Downtown Huntsville is one of my favorite locations for senior photography in Huntsville. It offers clean white backdrops, architecture, and florals. I love all that Downtown Huntsville has to offer! One of the main reasons it is one of my favorite locations for senior photography in Huntsville is the variety of backdrops all within a short walking distance. Downtown Huntsville has the ability to feel like you took senior portraits at 3-5 different locations all while staying downtown!

If you are looking for florals for senior photography in Huntsville then Huntsville Botanical Gardens is the perfect location! It has beautiful landscaping, architecture and florals throughout for stunning photos. Some considerations to note for the Huntsville Botanical Gardens include that a photography permit is required for sessions here, so there is an additional fee. Also, Huntsville Botanical Gardens typically begins setting up for their Christmas light display around the end of September. If you are wanting a session at Huntsville Botanical Gardens it is best to book a session in the spring or summer!
When it comes to choosing outfits for senior portraits I always recommend picking outfits that match your personality. Don’t choose something just because it is trendy. Your senior portraits should be a reflection of you and your personality!! Pick outfits that match your style, you are comfortable in, and you feel confident in.
I always recommend avoiding neon colors, large logos, and bold distracting patterns or prints. We want your outfits to compliment you in the senior portraits without being distracting. I highly recommend selecting outfits in a variety of colors. This is going to help add variety into your full final gallery. I also highly recommend bringing multiple outfits. My senior portrait experiences include 2-4 outfits. This also helps to get a full and diverse final gallery.
Lastly, part of my job is to help with outfit selection and guidance. I gladly offer my seniors feedback on any outfits prior to their session. We will also work together to decide, which outfits to shoot where, and what outfit to start our session with. Before your session you are more than welcome to send me some photos of outfits and we will work together to decide what will work best for your individual senior portraits.

Leading up to your senior portrait session begin planning outfits and exactly what you will wear. If you need any help selecting outfits I’m always happy to help provide guidance. Next, consider if you would like professional hair or makeup for your senior portraits. If so be sure to schedule those appointments.
The day before your session be sure to lay out each outfit with accessories. Make sure each outfit is wrinkle free and have everything packed and ready to bring to your session. I recommend leaving outfits on a hanger for in the car. Make sure you have shoes and jewelry for each outfit and get plenty of rest the night before.
Whether you are having it done professionally or doing it yourself, I always recommend some anti-humidity, anti-frizz, and/or hairspray for hair before sessions. For makeup, add some color to your lips, a little more blush and eyeshadow than you would typically wear. Lastly, don’t forget about your nails! If you choose to get a manicure I recommend soft neutral colors. Either way make sure your nails are trimmed and look well manicured prior to your session. Many poses include hands, so they will be seen in pictures.
Once you book your senior portrait session we will be in communication about outfits and where to meet. I offer seniors outfit guidance for all of my senior portrait sessions. If you want help selecting outfits or have any questions I’m only an email or text message away. The week of your session I will reach out about how the forecast is looking, our plan for your session, outfits and exactly where to meet.
The session is the best part! We will meet and begin shooting beautiful senior portraits. Don’t worry about how to pose or what to do with your hands. I will guide you throughout the entire session on exactly what to do!
After your session I will begin editing your full digital gallery. Your gallery will be ready within 30 days of your session, although it is typically much sooner! The full gallery will allow you to download your photos, share with family and friends, and even print them from the print shop.

The best time to book senior photography in Huntsville is in the summer leading up to senior year or the fall of senior year. You can book a session anytime though. The turnaround time for senior portraits is 30 days from the session, so be sure to book your session with enough time to send out graduation announcements and leave room for the possibility of rescheduling if needed due to the weather.
As a Huntsville senior photographer, my senior portrait experiences include 2-4 outfits depending on the session you book.
I check the forecast multiple times leading up to sessions. If rain is predicted we will be in communication the week of your session to discuss rescheduling. Although I never want to reschedule your senior portraits only happen once. I want your portraits to be everything you dreamed of and that does not include rain messing up hair for portraits. We will work together to reschedule the session if needed.
Yes parents are highly encouraged to attend! I request a parent to be present for all high school senior portrait sessions. Parents play a big role in the senior portrait session. Parents can help the senior to feel more comfortable, be encouraging during the session, and can be a huge help with outfit changes.
If you would like to include friends or sibling please discuss this prior to booking your session. My senior sessions also come with the option of adding on a family mini session for 15 minutes. This is the perfect opportunity to have senior portraits and updated family photos all captured in one day!
My favorite locations for senior photography in Huntsville are Downtown Huntsville and Huntsville Botanical Gardens. There are numerous great locations throughout Huntsville and North Alabama though. If you have a specific location in mind feel free to email me and I’d love to discuss capturing your session there for you.
