As a Huntsville family photographer I strive to provide a stress-free photography experience. As a mom myself I understand the thought of coordinating outfits, getting everyone to look at the camera, and get everyone out the door for family photos can seem overwhelming. I strive to make your whole family photography experience as stress-free as possible because although it may feel overwhelming you will look back and be so grateful you have the photos!
Holiday photos are one of my favorite times of years for families to annually update family portraits. For starters family portraits typically take place in the fall. This is my favorite time of year for seasons. The weather is beautiful and we may have some fall colors depending on the timing. It is also the perfect time of year to get updated family photos for holiday cards before the busy holiday season.
My first tip with holiday photos and any family session is to have outfits coordinate rather then match. I always recommend families to establish a color scheme of about 2-3 colors and to coordinate outfits from there. Some great ways to coordinate while adding variety is to include a mixture of some subtle patterns and textures throughout outfits. For colors I recommend neutrals, pastel colors, or jewel tones. Some things to avoid are bright neon colors, large logos, and bold patterns. We want your outfits to complement each other, but still have the focus be on your family without distracting outfits. I recommend avoiding neon colors because these will reflect back onto skin tones causing skin tones to look green, orange, pink, etc.
As a Huntsville family photographer there’s a few things I always recommend families bring to sessions especially with young children. These items include snacks, water, a stroller depending on location, and diapers/an extra outfit. Snacks can help to keep kids engaged and also just helpful if children get hungry. Most sessions take place around sunset and depending on the time of year this can be right around dinner and bedtimes. Snacks can be super helpful during sessions if needed. I always recommend packing snacks that are not messy and won’t stain outfits. Things such as cheese sticks, apples, or crackers are great.
A stroller can be a great addition to a family session depending on the location of the session. For example, if your session is in Downtown Huntsville I highly recommend bringing a stroller or wagon. Downtown Huntsville allows us a lot of variety to move to different locations for some added variety and having a stroller can make this a lot easier. Lastly, if you have a child in diapers I highly recommend packing extra diapers and an extra outfit that will also coordinate well. It’s always best to be prepared just in case!
After your family portrait session you will receive an email with a link to your family session gallery. In the gallery you will be able to view all your edited images, download them, and order prints. I guarantee you will receive your gallery within 30 days of our session, but try to get it back to you as soon as possible. You will have the ability to share your gallery with family and friends, download your portraits to your phone, and share them on social media. Although you can print your photos anywhere you will have the ability to order prints, albums, framed portraits, canvases, and even holiday cards directly from your gallery. I always recommend printing from the gallery as it is through a high quality print shop, which will result in the best quality and most true to color prints. It is also convenient that everything gets delivered right to your door.
