How to Choose the Perfect Outfit for Your Family Photos in Huntsville

Huntsville, AL also known as The Rocket City is known for the Redstone Arsenal and U.S. Space & Rocket Center. It is increasing its popularity and more people are moving here daily. We recently moved here and are loving all the city has to offer. From the Southern hospitality, beautiful weather, and gorgeous scenery there is a lot to love about Huntsville. The city has numerous gorgeous locations for family photos whether it be a nature preserve, flower field, downtown Huntsville, or a grassy field with mountains in the background you are sure to find a great location. Once you have your location chosen and session booked it’s time to start planning outfits. I’m sharing some tips below on choosing the perfect outfit for your family photos in Huntsville.

Consider Huntsville’s Seasons and Weather When Choosing Outfits

The first thing that I would consider with a family photography session in Huntsville, AL is the weather. Picking clothes that are breathable fabrics can help to create that soft dreamy look in your photos while also keeping the whole family comfortable while taking photos. The weather is also a big consideration for any hair and makeup that may be done for the session. For makeup I would recommend using a primer and setting spray to help keep your makeup in place. The weather is also a big consideration when it comes to hair styles. Products such as anti-humidity spray and hairspray can be helpful in the summer. Considering an up-do might be the right chose for you too.

Coordinating Colors Without Matching Too Much

When it comes to planning outfits for family photos in Huntsville I like to coordinate a color scheme without everyone matching identically. This can be done by choosing different shades of colors, adding in some pattern with a few of the outfits, or finding colors that blend well together. A great way to add a little variety and pattern can be with floral dress patterns. I personally love soft neutral colors for any family portrait session. They photograph beautifully, help to create that soft dreamy look, and are perfect for just about any location. Choosing to add some color into your family’s outfits will look beautiful too.

One big consideration when choosing a color scheme is consider that bold colors will reflect in the light. You might be wondering what that means. For example, a bold bright pink dress is going to slightly reflect in the light. This can make other families skin tones look more pink in the photos than they typically do in real life. Another big consideration is where your session is taking place. I especially recommend considering this for sessions in parks with lots of trees and grass around. I love the color green (it’s even one of my branding colors for my business), but do know that when wearing green at a park session will result in images that are very green. Just picture an image with grass, a lot of trees in the background, and a person wearing a green dress or shirt. I think it can look beautiful just keep that consideration in mind if your goal is to have some more contrast within your photos between the background and your family.

Color Schemes to Consider for Your Family Photos

Some of my favorite color scheme recommendations are pale pinks, whites, grey and/or khaki. I also love that combination with pale blues. If you are doing family portraits with several family members even combining the pale pinks, pale blues, and soft neutral colors also makes for a great color scheme. Another beautiful color scheme especially is pale green, tan, and white. For a more causal look denim can be a great option for family photos too. Selecting one or two family members to have a top and/or dress with a pattern can be a great option too.
