Whether graduating from high school or college this is a huge moment. Looking back remembering high school memories or thinking back to all the late nights studying in college the graduation day has finally come. Now that graduation has arrived it is time to celebrate and what better way to remember this big moment than with senior portraits. Senior portraits can be great for yearbooks, graduation invitations, headshots, and to remember this milestone. To me senior portraits aren’t just about celebrating this milestone, but also sharing the story of time in high school or college.
Coordinating with your senior photographer can help for a successful shoot. Be sure to communicate any special requests prior to the shoot. Some things to consider are any special props you want in photos such as confetti as this can affect the location of the shoot. Communicating with your photographer prior to your session can help to understand how many outfits and locations are available for the shoot. Some other important topics to discuss with your photographer are your plans after graduation, your interests, and any activities you were involved in. This information can help your photographer to make recommendations for your shoot to really be able to tell your story.
Senior portraits are all about remembering this milestone and sharing the journey to graduation. Generally, for senior portraits I recommend 2-3 outfits to my clients. The first outfit can be a causal look that could include your schools logo on it. For example, jeans and a t-shirt supporting the college the senior will be attending or is graduating from. The second outfit can be a more formal outfit. This outfit might be a dress and heels or a suit for the men. This is a great time to get a formal headshot for professional profiles after graduation. Lastly, the third outfit I typically suggest doing around the seniors interests. If the senior was involved in any sports or band their uniform can be a great option.
Some other interests and hobbies that can be great additions to senior portraits is to consider any props that showcase these interests. For athletes, bringing along the football, soccer ball, or track shoes can be a great additional to senior portraits. For musicians, bringing along the trumpet, flute, or other instruments can be the perfect way to remember the time in high school or college. Some other props to consider bringing to a senior portrait session include any graduation cords, cap and gown, or any textbooks that showcase the time in school.
